LAXWAX at Santa Clarita City Hall - July 18 - November 15, 2018

I had 6 pieces of my "Meditation Series" accepted to the LAXWAX (International Encaustic Artists) exhibition, "A Moment in Time" hosted by Santa Clarita City Hall - First Floor Gallery.  The exhibition runs for 4 months - July 18 - November 15.

ARTISTS' RECEPTION:  join us Wednesday, July 25 from 6:30p-8:30p.  Enjoy light appetizers, live music, and meet the artists featured in the exhibition.  Santa Clarita City Hall, 23920 Valencia Boulevard, Santa Clarita, CA  91355.

These pieces are centered on my daily practice of meditation and tea drinking.  Meditation encourages me to live in the present moment and this awareness creates a unique experience of time.

Meditation grounds and elevates me and I created these pieces in an attempt to capture a visual sense of my daily practice.  All the papers used in this series are tea bags from my daily tea drinking ritual.  I also incorporate elements of nature, ancient cultures & knowledge, and symbolism some of which is obvious and some of which is arcane and obscure.  Like meditation, viewers will find their own meaning.

The encaustic medium satisfies my curiosity to explore new techniques and use new materials, and each painting session finds me trying to refine my paintings to mirror my ideas.
